Hi, we are mary & hannah

We are Somatic Therapists and psychedelic guides

A little about Somatic Therapy…

Have you ever noticed that when you experience shocking or stressful events, that it is your body that responds to this? Perhaps your breath quickens, you may feel a ‘knot’ in your tummy, you feel agitated, can’t concentrate, need the toilet (or can’t go to the toilet, maybe your sleep is affected, perhaps your relationships or your energy in general, perhaps your menstrual cycle gets affected, you have a flare up of eczema - or perhaps you don’t feel much at all, and your body experiences a kind of ‘shut down’ or numbness?

When we experience these stressors and shocking events and we don’t have the time, space or tools to process the stress in the moment, our body can hold onto the energy of those stressors and it can gather as excess energy (or charge) in our nervous system.

This can later manifest as physical issues such as: chronic long-term conditions, autoimmune conditions, syndromes such as IBS and EDS, sleep disorders, chronic pain, breathing issues, recurring skin complaints, menstrual cycles issues and so on.

It can also affect our emotional wellbeing, our relationships and behaviours, perhaps leaving us feeling anxious, overwhelmed, struggling with boundaries or feelings of safety or numbed out, exhausted and burnt out.

In either, and in all cases, it may prevent you from living your life as fully as you would like. This is where Somatic Therapy can help.

In Somatic Therapy, we use the ‘Soma’ (from the ancient Greek for body) as the entry and exit point to help resolve excess energy from our nervous system that may have gathered due to shock events and continued stressful situations. Through gentle and supportive inquiry into what is arising in the moment, Mary will support you through a process to release this charge by tuning into bodily sensation, arising emotions, images, memories and movement; and thus help to release pain, tension, resolve dysregulation and support your system to feel more regulated, well and whole.

Somatic therapy is helpful for anyone who has knowingly experienced a single traumatic event or several, longer term events - known as emotional, developmental or attachment trauma. It is also helpful for those who do not know their history - since, fortunately, we do not need to know or remember our history in order to process it - but nonetheless are experiencing challenges in their present life.

How these sessions can support your psilocybin experience:

Since a psychedelic journey will often give you access to other parts of your bodymind (your psyche and soma), it is helpful to feel safe in your body - Somatic Therapy provides you with tools to do this, and supports you to feel more anchored and grounded in your body and is a way to process these heightened states in a safe, manageable way. During and after the intensity of a psychedelic experience, somatic techniques can help regulate the autonomic nervous system, reducing anxiety, fear, or stress that might have arisen during the journey.
